Universal Music Machine

From Masters Project to Reality

AI, Music, and us

Born in the interplay between the virtuality and tangibility of collecting records in the 21st century, this project is an exploration in incorporated AI, or AI-integrated objects of a new kind to revive human connection in music listening.

Paradoxically, today, with nothing but an internet connection, we practically have access to the entirety of the music on the internet. Yet our recommendations (ever increasingly mediated by AI), guide us each separately through the universal musical heritage library at our fingertips.

This project, while also mediated by AI, aims instead to foster moments of sharing the musical experience among listeners. It assesses and proposes the need for a physical object to anchor a true and meaningful social interaction.

The concept:

Play Anything

Bringing together

People and Technology

Instead of “sharing” (➦) art through screens and digital social networks,

…we should be sharing them, herenow… in the space between people present, in the real world.

That is what sharing should mean again.

Media Archeology

“Specialized field within media studies that critically examines the interplay between new and old media, focusing on the materiality of media artifacts and technologies […], this discipline seeks to uncover the histories and cultural implications of media forms, particularly those that have been marginalized or forgotten.” (https://www.ebsco.com/research-starters/social-sciences-and-humanities/media-archaeology)

Multi-user experiences

Designed with the goal of bringing people together. (https://medium.com/@allofustweet/designing-multi-person-interactives-for-public-spaces-fd7a3b08d9f5)

While still a work in progress, I am still pursuing the completion of this project (from manufacturing of parts, to custom ML training, to UI and UX development).

If you are in any way interested in participating, learning more, or in trying the current prototype, feel free to reach out, please, don’t hesitate:
